Google’s 25th Birthday: satisfying the curiosity of billions

Search engine giant Google is celebrating Google’s 25th Birthday on September 27 with a special doodle shown above. Google Inc. was incorporated on September 4, 1998 but the company celebrated its birthday on September 27.

The Journey Begins Here:

Doctoral students in Stanford University’s computer science program, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, in the late ‘90s, shared a similar vision of making the World Wide Web a more accessible place. The two were both intrigued with the idea of enhancing the ability to extract meaning from the mass of data accumulated on the Internet.

The pair worked tirelessly from their dorm rooms to develop a prototype for a better search engine. As they made meaningful progress on the project, they moved the operation to Google’s first office — a rented garage. On September 27, 1998, Google Inc. was officially born. Its headquarters are in Mountain View, California.

Emphasizing that much has changed since 1998 — including its logo as seen in today’s Doodle — Google said that its mission has remained the same: “to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful”.

“How do you cut a pineapple?”

It wasn’t that long ago when finding the answers to simple questions like this wasn’t all that simple. You might call a friend or family member who was handy in the kitchen, or hope that a cookbook at home had some instructions. Or, unsure of where to look for the answer at all, you’d just grab a kitchen knife and do your best.

Twenty-five years ago we launched Google Search to help you find answers to questions big and small. Since then, billions of people have turned to our products to do just that — to satisfy their curiosity. To start a business. To start a journey. To cut a pineapple.

Thanking users for “evolving with them over the past 25 years”, it added, ”We can’t wait to see where the future takes us, together.”
